Natural crib mattress sized 27.5 x 51.5" for standard 28 x 52" cribs and made in the USA by Pure Rest & Ecobaby Organics. Our natural rubber crib mattress (also known as latex) is more secure for your infant to sleep on since it is free of dangerous elements that can be found in traditional ones that make your baby sick. The batting and filling in a ordinary crib mattress is treated with chemicals to make it fire resistant. Those precise chemicals that are put in as a safety measure are essentially hurting our babies instead. These chemicals filter through the vinyl cover and can be absorbed into your baby's body and breathed into his or her respiratory system. This can cause respiratory problems, skin irritations and rashes, allergic effects, and the most awful of all, SIDS.
Putting together chemicals with a vinyl covering makes the danger even worse. In a study using mice, when the mice were put on the vinyl covering, they were shown to have a twenty six percent deduction in the flow of air. We suppose that these factors combined have been responsible for many instances of SIDS. Ponder about the "Back to Sleep" Campaign that has undeniably declined the rate of SIDS. The cases of sudden infant death went from 5,000 a year to 3,000 a year just by implementing one change. The most likely reason this worked is because the baby's face was being turned away from candidly breathing in those chemical off-gasses that their faces were pointed at? It is reasonable to think that the other 3,000 cases of SIDS that still come about because the chemicals are still being absorbed by the babies bodies and indirectly breathed into their respiratory systems. Then the mattress is topped with premium European organic cotton fabric and quilted to organic cotton mattress ticking to prevent shifting. How Natural Rubber Is Made:
Natural rubber, (also called latex) comes from tapping rubber trees, or Hevea Brasiliensis.
You can find these in Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Sri Lanka. The latex used in our mattresses usually comes from Sri Lanka. Latex is not the sap of the rubber tree as many people assume. It actually flows from latex ducts just under the bark. To get to the latex, a sharp knife is used to shave a very thin layer off of an intact section of bark. If it is cut too thick or deep there is a possibility of killing the tree. The latex then drips down and is collected into a cup. After collection, the latex is whipped with air to form a foam. The foam is then heated to produce a foam rubber. This material conforms to the shape of your head and body, giving amazing support while minimizing pressure on your joints and back. This provides an even support like innerspring mattresses cannot.

Formaldehyde - A colorless flammable gas. Low levels can source inflammation of eyes, nose, throat & skin.
Antimony- A silvery white metal found in the earth's crust. Can aggravate eyes and lungs, cause heart and lung problems, stomach pain, diarrhea, vomiting and stomach ulcers.
Arsenic -A naturally occurring element found on the earth's crust. Coming in contact with to lower levels for a long time can cause a discoloration of the skin and the outward show of minor corns or warts.
Cadmium - A natural element in the crust of the planet. Cadmium damages the lungs, can initiate kidney disease, and may irritate the digestive tract.
PBDE's - Lower brominated PBDE's can affect the hormone levels in the thyroid gland. A selection of concentrations can be associated to reproductive and neurological risks.
Keep in mind that on the whole infants will be more susceptible to the fumes from these irritants. People with allergies can be affected by TRACES of the irritant. (There is no need to worry that your baby might be allergic to wool. Habitually when a person reacts to wool, the cause is the chemicals that are added to wool that they are reacting to. Natural wool is non-allergenic.) We have to stop and reflect how these harmful chemicals can affect our little ones with brand new sensitive skin and respiratory systems.
The highest retail website for standard (not organic) crib mattresses was asked to disclose the elements in their baby mattresses. They replied that the top layer just under the vinyl contains a fire blocker which provides protection and gentle sleep for the baby.
That fire blocker is actually 7.5% boric acid, which is used for killing roaches, and 2.4 % antimony, which is most similar to arsenic. In Europe, researchers have established that antimony actually leaches through the vinyl and can be absorbed by a baby's body. They have directly related high antimony levels to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.
