Other products you see that are labeled Natural (Or Organic) Rubber (Or latex) can simply means that it has natural rubber included in it. It does not always indicate that it is 100% natural rubber or that it is chemical free. In fact many of these are mixed with up to 60% synthetic materials.

The Way Natural Rubber Is Made:

Natural rubber, (also called latex) comes from tapping rubber trees, or Hevea Brasiliensis. You can find these in Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Sri Lanka. The latex used in our mattresses usually comes from Sri Lanka. Latex is not the sap of the rubber tree as many people assume. It actually flows from latex ducts just under the bark. To obtain the latex, a sharp knife is used to shave a very thin layer off of an intact section of bark. If it is cut too thick or deep there is a possibility of killing the tree,so it is a precise objective. The latex then drips down and is collected into a cup. After collection, the latex is whipped with air to form a foam. The foam is then heated to produce a foam rubber. This material conforms to the shape of your head and body, giving amazing support while minimizing pressure on your joints and back. This provides an even support like innerspring mattresses cannot.

Fitted or Flat Wool Puddle Pad. This organic wool puddle pad is knowledgeably felted to keep leaks and spills away from your mattress.

Organic Cotton Mattress Pad Adds softness and comfort to your child's firm mattress. The mattress pad also works with the puddle pad by absorbing the leaks or spills and pulling them away from your baby's skin. Your sheet will also help with this, but is not as effective as the mattress pad.

The following are some elements that could be found in other mattresses:

Formaldehyde - A colorless flammable gas. Low levels can trigger aggravation of eyes, nose, throat & skin.

Antimony- A silvery white metal found in the earth's crust. Can inflame eyes and lungs, cause heart and lung problems, stomach pain, diarrhea, vomiting and stomach ulcers.

Arsenic -A naturally occurring element found on the earth's crust. Coming in contact with to lower levels for a long time can set off a discoloration of the skin and the outward show of minor corns or warts.

Cadmium - A natural element in the crust of the planet. Cadmium damages the lungs, can initiate kidney disease, and may irritate the digestive tract.

PBDE's - Lower brominated PBDE's can affect the hormone levels in the thyroid gland. A selection of concentrations can be connected to reproductive and neurological risks.
